This is such an ever-elusive and intriguing product from a brand that approaches skincare in a very unique way. I want to share my experience with you. I had been lusting after May Lindstrom's The Blue Cocoon for about two or so years. As with many of my purchases, I was influenced by the fantastic Caroline Hirons' mention (and adoration) of this mystical pot of blue. At $160, it's not something most people can scoff at and lay their money down on the counter - especially without being able to try it in person. Fast forward a few years and a trip to Shen Beauty in Brooklyn resulted in a pot of Blue Cocoon ending up in my bag after I (quickly) swiped my card.
The first time I used it, I had an experience.
When I smoothed the product over my skin, I felt at ease. The tension in my face relaxed. I breathed in deep and felt my body calm down. My skin was soft, supple, glossy, and radiant. It stayed that way for a good while before going to bed. The thing that I appreciate so much about my purchasing and sharing of this product is the new approach to skincare I've experienced. I posted about picking this up on Instagram, and May herself commented on my photo telling me to "enjoy it with every cell of my being" and cleared up some confusion about a potential discount of products at the boutique I bought it from. That's great customer service, that's good marketing, and it's just good business - beyond the fact that May seems like a truly kind person from the core of her being.
It's blue. Like, it's really blue. No ifs, ands, or, buts about it. With that said, blue tansy is naturally a really deep green-tinged navy essential oil. So it'll do that.
It's uber concentrated. You truly don't need much. The size of a pea (a pea that's been smooshed flat nonetheless) will more or less do your entire face. The texture is definitely a balm, but it's not rock solid the way some balms can be. It truly does melt immediately when it hits the skin and spreads out with ease. Likewise, if it comes in contact with any type of heat - even the warmth of the air - it will begin to melt. Try to keep it away from anything that is warmer than a brisk autumn breeze - aka, below 75ºF. If it helps explains the texture of the balm, you can successfully get the amount of product you need without the use of a spatula. Just using the pad of your finger to slightly scoop up the product works with ease. I usually pick some up with my middle finger, spread it between my fingers, and smooth it over my skin. Beautiful.
The scent. THE SCENT. I don't think there are actually words in the English (or any other for that matter) language that can describe how great the smell of this makes me feel. It's hard to explain. It has a very delicate earthy-citrus vibe to it. Inhaling the essential oils truly does calm your mind and eases your senses. My favorite way to use it is at the tail end of a really active routine. Meaning, if I do a really potent exfoliant, a strong retinol, or any kind of intense treatment, I smooth this on at the very end to make sure my inflammation risk is completely neutralized. Try it on top of Sunday Riley Luna sometime - you'll wake up with skin that looks like living marble.

She's built a product (and brand) from the ground up that is 100% conscious of every single element that goes into her 'treats.' That deserves some applause. If $160 is a lot of money for you to lay down at one time - which I completely understand - I would suggest to buy it through Beautylish. They have a fantastic program where you can split the cost into three equal monthly payments, but they send you the product immediately. Their customer service is some of the best in the business, and I've done the payment plan myself in the past with much success. You don't necessarily get the generous samples that May provides when you order directly from her website, but you can make paying for this product a little bit easier.

Here's my final point: This is a product that I will probably repurchase for the rest of my life. Every single quality of it is fantastic. It performs effectively, it soothes my mind, and the entire experience of purchasing, using, and exploring this product and the brand makes me love what May Lindstrom Skin is doing for the beauty industry.
This is a skincare experience. It's not a product. It has soothing qualities for your skin and your senses, and I truly think it is worth the investment. Truly.
