My adoration of May Lindstrom began in November 2015 when I purchased The Blue Cocoon. Since then, it has become an absolute requirement in my daily life. It's literally a deep breath in a jar. My further exploration of her treats led me to The Honey Mud, which was kindly gifted by Josh Collier. Immediately, I was smearing it on my face. I mean, would you blame me?!
Story: An exquisitely distinctive union of raw honey, white halloysite clay, and aromatic pure plant oils marry to envelope you in a truly intoxicating and highly addictive cleansing ritual. This silken, pudding-like treat gently frees you of the day’s pollutants, infusing your skin with active enzymes and nourishment while restoring your optimal hydration and individual rhythm. The Result: Reveal a calm and balanced complexion that isplush, clear and breathtakingly soft.
The Honey Mud is a dense (almost solid) amalgamation of honey, clay, essential oils, and healing oils. It not only cleanses the skin, but heals and softens it in the process. It may also be used as a reparative / antibacterial / deep cleansing / nourishing mask, and is absolutely gorgeous as such. I cannot even begin to explain the scent that this gorgeous goop has. It's somewhere between chocolate, honey, fresh earth, and marshmallow. Indulgent to say the least! You can't help but sigh in relief as you smooth this over your face. It has soothed my skin and mind on more than one occasion, and what more could you ask from your cleansing treatment?

The key to my love of this beautiful product is in the ritual. It's not simply a cleanser. It's not simply a mask. I view this as a cleansing, healing, deep cleansing, and nourishing treatment, not just a face wash. I reach for this when my skin is irritated, dull, crying for help, or in need of a bit of TLC. It's not a cleanser I use flippantly, because it is so precious and powerful at the same time. Needless to say, I don't waste the gorgeous ingredients on makeup removal. I mainly use this in the morning, but it's lovely at night to remove congestion from the day.
Ritual: As a cleanser: Massage a plump pea sized dollop into warm, damp skin, making circular motions with the pads of your fingertips to release makeup and debris before rinsing clear.
As a masque: Apply liberally to clean, dry skin. Allow to penetrate for 10-20 minutes as desired.
Normally I would never wet my face before applying a cleanser, but The Honey Mud is the exception. On dry skin, it doesn't spread or smooth into the skin, it drags. On wet skin, it turns into a delicate clay-based milk, and rinses away beautifully.
I like to slightly dampen my face before applying, smooth a small amount onto my skin, let it dry, then apply a bit more. I'll let it soak for a few minutes before getting into the shower and then letting the steam further activate the healing and cleansing power. In total, I leave the product on for about ten minutes. When I've emerged from the shower, my skin is immensely smoother, softer, and comfortable. I have never experienced dryness from using this, despite the presence of clay and witch hazel.
As a result, I do think this is a treatment that most skin types could use and appreciate. If you have incredibly sensitive skin, the essential oils may potentially cause some irritation, but the soothing powers of honey and cacao may offset this. I would certainly try it out first, just to be safe! I cherish this product. It's exactly what my skin needs when it's asking for help, and I love the experience I have every time I use it. It is a product I see myself repurchasing time and time again.
PS: I love mixing a little bit of The Clean Dirt in to give it an exfoliating boost. You can also mix some of The Honey Mud into The Problem Solver to give it a nourishing anchor so that the masque doesn't over-purify the skin.
